This is the practical "click path" for handing your team to another person. For the conceptual overview, see Transferring Team Ownership.
In Zenovay, you transfer ownership by promoting another member to the Owner role. A team can have up to 3 owners, so the handoff is two steps: first you make the other person an owner, then (if you want to fully step down) you leave the team. Promoting someone doesn't remove you automatically, the team simply has two owners until you leave.
Pre-conditions
Before you start, verify the following:
- The new owner is already a member of the team. Invite them first if they aren't, and wait until they've accepted the invite and appear in the Members list.
- You are signed in as an Owner. Only owners can assign the Owner or Admin role.
- The team currently has fewer than 3 owners (the maximum).
- If your team is on a paid plan, agree with the new owner that they'll take over billing. Confirm this with them out of band.
Step-by-step
- Go to Settings → Workspace → Members in your Zenovay dashboard.
- In the Members list, find the person you want to promote.
- Click their current role (or open the ⋮ menu next to them and choose Change role).
- In the role dialog, select Owner, then save.
That member is now an owner with full control, including billing.
If you want to fully step down, leave the team afterwards: open the ⋮ menu next to your own entry and choose Leave team. You can only do this once another owner exists, so promote the new owner first. There's no separate "demote myself" action, leaving the team is how an owner steps down.
Post-conditions
Right after you promote the new owner:
- The new owner gets full control of the team, including billing: they can update the payment method, change plan, and view invoices.
- You remain an Owner until you leave the team. Promoting someone else does not automatically demote you, the team simply has two owners until you step down.
- All API keys, integrations, and webhooks keep working without interruption, because they belong to the team, not to an individual member.
- An entry is added to the audit log noting the role change. You can review it under Settings → Security → Audit log.
Stripe billing implications
The subscription is tied to the team, not to an individual user. Transferring ownership does not move billing to a different account, so:
- Existing invoices and payment history stay attached to the team.
- The new owner can update the card on file from Settings → Workspace → Billing & invoices.
- If the old card belonged to the previous owner personally, ask them to update it after the handoff, or have the new owner add their own.
- The next renewal charges whichever payment method is active on the day of renewal.
If you need to leave the team entirely, promote a new owner first, then use Leave team from the ⋮ menu next to your entry in the Members list. You cannot leave while you're the only owner, Zenovay always keeps at least one owner on the team.
