If you need to reduce your subscription, this guide explains how to downgrade and what to expect. Plan changes are managed by the team owner.

How Downgrading Works

When It Takes Effect

Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing cycle:

  • You keep current plan features until then
  • No refund for unused time
  • The new rate applies from the next billing date

Example Timeline

Current: Scale plan, renews Jan 15 Downgrade: Scheduled to Pro on Jan 5 Result:

  • Scale access until Jan 14
  • Pro access starts Jan 15
  • Charged the Pro rate on Jan 15

How to Downgrade

  1. Open your plan settings

Go to Settings → Billing → Plan.

  2. Open the plans comparison

Click Change Plan to open the plans comparison.

  3. Select a lower plan

Choose the plan you want to downgrade to.

  4. Review the impact

Review what features and limits will change.

  5. Confirm the downgrade

Confirm to schedule the change for the end of your billing cycle.

Review the impact carefully before confirming. Some data may be removed once the lower plan's retention window applies.

Impact of Downgrading

Feature Access

Features not in your new plan become unavailable:

Pro → FreeSession replay, heatmaps, error tracking, goals & funnels, A/B experiments, AI insights, REST API
Scale → FreeAll paid features

Data Retention

Your data retention may be affected:

DowngradeRetention ChangeData Impact
Scale → Pro4 years → 2 yearsData older than 2 years removed
Pro → Free2 years → 1 yearData older than 1 year removed
Scale → Free4 years → 1 yearData older than 1 year removed

Data outside the new retention window is removed once the downgrade takes effect. Export anything you need to keep first.

Resource Limits

Limits are enforced after the downgrade:

DowngradeWhat Happens
Fewer websitesYou may need to remove websites until you are within the new limit
Fewer team membersRemove members until you are within the new limit
Lower event allowanceThe monthly event limit drops to the new plan's allowance

Preparing to Downgrade

Export Your Data

In-app data export is a Scale feature, and it lives on the Agency page (team owners only). If you are on Scale and plan to drop to Pro or Free, export what you need before the change. On any plan, you can also download your own personal data (profile, websites metadata, team memberships) from Settings → Account. If you have the REST API (Pro and up), you can pull your daily aggregates programmatically.

Reduce Websites

If going below the new website limit:

  1. Go to Domains
  2. Remove the websites you no longer need
  3. Keep your most important ones

Reduce Team Members

If going below the new team limit:

  1. Go to Settings → Team
  2. Remove extra members
  3. Ensure key people remain
